Ultrafast Laser Pulse Generation by Mode Locking: MATLAB-Based Demonstrations

چکیده

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy is a valuable and increasingly accessible technique for studies of rapid chemical reactions. Critical to ultrafast the concept mode locking, that enables fixed phase relationship between modes, resulting in pulses with very short duration (in fs or ps range). Despite increasing importance lasers chemistry, introduction key concepts behind their operation into undergraduate graduate chemistry coursework has been limited. To help incorporation these topics courses, we report here hands-on activity helps students develop an intuitive understanding factors impact electromagnetic wave evolution optical cavities process locking. We first provide theoretical background by introducing cavity modes contrasting them well-known propagating waves. then explore what happens when are added how relative affects behavior. In second section this report, three teaching modules provided, along associated MATLAB codes animated images, can be used classroom introduce These start waves illustrate multiple present overall field cavity.

Anapole nanolasers for mode-locking and ultrafast pulse generation

Nanophotonics is a rapidly developing field of research with many suggestions for a design of nanoantennas, sensors and miniature metadevices. Despite many proposals for passive nanophotonic devices, the efficient coupling of light to nanoscale optical structures remains a major challenge. In this article, we propose a nanoscale laser based on a tightly confined anapole mode. By harnessing the ...

Ultrafast Stretched-Pulse Fiber Laser Mode-Locked by Carbon Nanotubes

Ultrafast fiber sources having short pulses, broad bandwidth, high energy, and low amplitude fluctuations have widespread applications. Stretched-pulse fiber lasers, incorporating segments of normal and anomalous dispersion fibers, are a preferred means to generate such pulses. We realize a stretched-pulse fiber laser based on a nanotube saturable absorber, with 113 fs pulses, 33.5 nm spectral ...

Self-starting additive-pulse mode locking of a Nd:YAG laser.

We report additive-pulse mode locking of lamp-pumped Nd:YAG lasers at both 1.06 and 1.32 microm. Under completely self-starting conditions, stable cw mode-locked trains of 6-psec pulses have been achieved at an average output power of 2.4 W.

Ultrafast Laser Pulse Synchronization

Progress in ultrafast science and technology has pushed the temporal resolution to subfemtosecond and attosecond region (Kienberger el at., 2002; Fleischer & Moiseyev, 2006; Corkum & Krausz, 2007; Goulielmakis el at., 2007) and technology exploration in ultrashort pulse generation has made it possible to equip femtosecond lasers that are only a few cycles in duration (Xu el at., 1996; Shirakawa...

Ultrafast Raman laser mode-locked by nanotubes.

We demonstrate passive mode-locking of a Raman fiber laser using a nanotube-based saturable absorber coupled to a net normal dispersion cavity. This generates highly chirped 500 ps pulses. These are then compressed down to 2 ps, with 1.4 kW peak power, making it a simple wavelength-versatile source for various applications.
